Placement Ideas

Hello

My Husband and I are heading to Redcliffe College in September 2012, entering in at Year 2 and need to do our first year placement before we go. We have a few countries that are of interest to us but don't necessarily know of organisations/ministries working there and would be interested to know if people have any contacts or ideas.

We feel called to work with people on the margins of society who are isolated and oppressed; David is particularly interested in things like prison ministry, men's ministry and bible studies. I am particularly interested in working with prostitutes, street children, and imigrants.

The countries we are looking at at the moment are as follows:

• Germany
• Poland
• Switzerland
• Kazakhstan

A rather random selection I know! :) Having been to Malawi in Southern Africa quite a few times we know we love this area of Africa so are keen to try elsewhere and central and eastern Europe is of great interest to us also so thought we'd look at that sort of area.

So if you have any ideas of organisations/ministries we could look into in the above countries that may be work in these areas we'd love to hear them!

I am sorry I can't be of any help regarding the countries you mentioned; but just in case if the Lord leads you to the eastern Africa: Ethiopia, I will be able to help. Looking forward to meeting you when you come to Redcliffe in the Autumn. In the meantime, have you searched OSCAR's opportunities (www.oscar.org.uk/vacancies)? We have around 900 online from various organisations, locations and types of ministry. Some of these are short-term or placement type opportunities. Just use your requirements (i.e. prison, street children, Poland etc) in the keywords box and see what comes up. Even if there isn't an opportunity exactly for you listed, it will give you an idea of who is working in the areas you want to explore ... then just contact them and ask! Many organisations will help place you with someone who is already there, working alongside them, for a short period.

You can also use the Mission Orgs list (www.oscar.org.uk/mission_organisations) to see who works where (searchable from OSCAR's main search engine at the top of any page).

Hi Mike, thanks for the tip, we'll check out those links!! We know OM are working in all these countries and definitely want to do at least one placement with them but thought it's worth checking what else is out there! Looking forward to meeting you in September! :)
