Hi All,

I have a question I am wondering if anyone here would be able to help me with.

My wife and I work with YWAM in Scotland and have done for almost 10 years. During that time we have dreamed of our own home, and at various points felt that the Lord was highlighting it to us as well. Over the last few months the Lord has been highlighting it again and again, through ourselves and external confirmations. However we have not been able to get a mortgage, every avenue we have pursued came up blank thanks to our finances and the fact we have three kids.

We found a trust that helped returning missionaries buy in the UK, either helping with a loan or buying the property and letting the missionary live there. But they do not help anyone who is long term here.

Would anyone know of any other avenues we could pursue?

Many thanks for any help/advice you can give.

Ian

  • Have you tried Kingdom Bank ?

  • Kingdom Bank provide specialist mortgages for Christian workers. They are just launching a new 'Buy to Let' mortgage scheme, so it might be worth talking to them. See www.kingdombank.co.uk

    • Hi Guys,

Thanks for the advice, we are currently pursing an equity only loan setup with Mission Housing, no lenders were up for helping, but Simon from Northants mortgages was INCREDIBLY helpful. I found them on this website!

      • Let me  know how it works out as it might help others I know. Other than that, I have only known where individuals own a second home they let cheaply to missionaries on furlough or long term.

        Blessings,
        Chris.

      • Good to hear, Ian. Let us know how it all works out.

  • Hi Ian

This is a response that we received via our LinkedIn group.  Hope it's some help:

Tracey, this is notoriously difficult. Commercially, mortgage agencies want to see a regular income sufficient to make the repayments, and few of us can get a big enough mortgage to be worthwhile. You might try Whitefield (http://www.whitefieldchristiantrust.co.uk/) who do this for returning mission workers - they may be willing to be flexible.

    • Hi Tracey,

Thank you for that! I have approached Whitefield already, they were very nice but not able to help. I know we are aiming high, and that we gave up the rights to do it the "normal" way. Happy to push where possible and allow God to do the rest.

      Thanks for your help again!

      • I heard you can easily get buy to let mortgages..ie you buy and get tenants in for 6 months or more...then surely you have the right to end tenancy after a period of time and the house is yours..unless there's any rules I don't k n ow about. ....you could even rent out one room to help cover mortgage
