Smart phones and tablet computers seem to becoming more and more popular. Here's a place to share any apps you have discovered to be useful on the field or at home base.

So my comment is phone and not smartphone related...although I might quickly add that I would recommend BlackBerry Messenger (available for BlackBerry, Android, i-phone etc) as a secure way to communicate in hostile countries.
For Hire: Satellite Phone Missionary Packages
Only 10% of the globe is covered by GSM mobile signal. For the travelling missionary in isolated or war torn areas I can offer handheld Satellite Phone rental from £1.30 per day for 2-4 year missionary assignments or £1.50 per day for 1 month - 2 year short term assignments. Call packages to suit. See Web:www.shepherdgroup.biz or email shepherdgroup@live.co.uk for details on how your communication issues can be solved. Yours in His service....
Might I be so bold as to ask why all these apps are for Apple products? Although a longtime MAc user, I resisted the temptation to buy either an iPad or an iPhone. I use the excellent Android Samsung Galaxy S. Would anybody be interested in apps for Android devices? I have a few already and am sure to find more in the coming months.
Hi Nigel - Please go ahead - this is one of the key reasons why OSCARactive exists so that we can all pool our varying knowledge, experiences. I'll include your Android reflections in the OSCARactive circular and tweet them etc.
Today OSCAR received a circular email from the Hesperian Foundation to say they are in the process of creating mobile applications for marginal, hard-to-reach communities. The application will provide information about pregnancy and birth that can be viewed and explored on a small screen(you can check out their video that demonstrates the proposed section on maternal health emergencies!).
