Valuing God's Word

One year ago today I got to witness something I thought had become impossible for me. I was once again in Korupun, Papua, Indonesia, for the dedication of the Kimyal New Testament. When post-polio syndrome (by the plan of the Lord) forced me back home from there, I left having spent 17 years working among the Kimyal tribe. By then I had translated 1/3 of the Kimyal New Testament. Two years later, a handful of Kimyal men had enough education in Indonesian that they could, with help, take up and continue the translation. They were helped and supervised by another former missionary who was physically able to make the necessary trips, once a year or two, to work with them. March 16, 2010, was Kimyal New Testament Dedication Day. Watch this inspiring five-minute video of the Kimyals' expression of praise.

Thanks for posting the link, Elinor. So good to see and hear the excitement from the people in their own language. Also good to see the MAF plane being used in the process :-) Mike.

Elinor, thank you for sharing about this. I've shown the video to a couple of classes over the last few weeks at Redcliffe because it speaks so powerfully of the value of having the Bible in our heart language. It reminds us English speakers of the uncomfortable privilege of having so many versions of the Bible when 350 million people don't have a single word in their heart language.
