Living by faith

I was wondering if anyone out there would care to share their experiences of moving from a full time job to living by faith. This is a step that I may need to make in the near future.

  • Hi Keith,

For my husband and I, this was really scary in the beginning... Asking for financial support... it's just not British :-) I think this was our first big lesson in faith and as we let go of our instinctive desire to control our situation, the Lord provided in amazing ways. In fact, I'm still not too sure where the money came from. We left our jobs, went to allnations for a term then to Nepal. Unfortunately, we didn't really get much guidance on what to do, so we just went ahead with speaking to people, writing letters and offering the opportunity for people to support us and our work.

I think it was helpful to make it clear that people were not only supporting us, but also the mission agency. In fact, I think we only received a small cut. We've been living this way for many years now and have come to realise how much our supporters appreciate feeling part of a team. We've enabled them to get involved in something tangible; a cross-cultural ministry which, for whatever reason, they are unable to do themselves.

At the start, we didn't really understand very much about giving/receiving and I wish we had come across Miles Wilson - his perspective and advice is excellent. Check out: www.fundingthefamilybusiness.org

One other comment... something that's been really helpful for us has been to become supporters ourselves. Being on both sides of the fence has given us a much better perspective. Also, the more we've let go of financial concerns, the more things seem to work out! I'm sure we're not the only ones who have found this.

Hope this has helped in some way.

    Blessings,

    Andrea
