News alert from the Disability and Rehabilitation Team at WHO on 3rd December, 2010
On International Day of Persons with Disabilities, 3 December, the count down begins to the launch of the World Report on Disability on
9 June 2011 in Geneva. This major report, published jointly with the World Bank, provides evidence on the current situation of people with disabilities, and identifies ways of removing barriers to the participation of people with disabilities in their communities.
We want to hear from people with disabilities about what can be done to overcome barriers. To start the debate, we asked Faustina Urassa, a woman with disabilities from Tanzania, "What's disability to you?"

I have received a further update on the launch. It is now going to be in New York, not Geneva.
Dear All,
The launch of the WHO/World Bank World report on disability will be held on 9 June, 2011. The original plan was to hold this event at WHO headquarters in Geneva and this was communicated widely. However, the High Level Meeting on AIDS will take place in the UN General Assembly in New York from 8-10 June. To allow the WHO Director-General as well as other personalities to attend both events, the launch of the World report on disability will take place in the United Nations Building in New York from 13:15 to 14:45. This will be followed by a discussion on implementing the recommendations of the report from 15:00 to 18:00 in the same building. We regret any inconvenience caused by this change of plan.
