TCK Buddy

We've had a request from a recently returned missionary family to help them find a TCK buddy for their 13 year old son. He's just started High school in the North-East of England and is finding the transition of schools difficult, having spent most of his life outside the UK. Does anyone know of a boy in a similar situation who might benefit from having a TCK buddy?

On the wider issue, if you want to discuss this sort of buddy system and how we might facilitate it, please also use this discussion thread. You might also know of other children who would benefit from having a TCK buddy so feel free to ask here. We'll do our best to find someone.

  • Hi Judith. Send me your details (perhaps your son's Facebook address) and I'll pass it on to this lad.
I agree, it's not always something you can orchestrate, but if there ends up being a few folk who respond, they could have a small group get together online which takes the pressure off the individuals.
Whilst it's not easy to set up and get right, the value when it works out can be worth the effort.
    Thanks for responding.
  • We also returned to live in the UK this summer and have a 13 year old son. He's doing pretty well in school, though there are some things he finds hard. He'd probably be happy to chat/FB/skype with this lad.  Let me know how that would work - who gives whose details to whom etc :-)

It's hard to make this kind of thing happen. Our friends' kids aren't our kids' friends when they've been working at the opposite end of a continent for the last 12 years. So when we say, 'Well there's so-and-so and so-and-so, and they've just come back from Africa too', it doesn't help the kids much. ReKonnect helped a lot, and just getting to know other returned MKs for themselves... But how to make the happen?!
