  • An excellent book for cooking on the mission field is 'More with Less' a world community cookbook by Doris Janzen Longacre.  I've found it really helpful here in Uganda - giving me lots of ideas for cooking with basics.  It's also quite a challenging read for how much we consume foodwise in the west, so I'm hoping that it is a book I'll always turn to, even back in the UK.
  • I'm not much of a cook (completely outclassed by my spouse!), but I know a good recipe when I taste one! However, just to show that us food 'appreciators' can contribute too, I've added a tip to the Discussion Forum. Anybody else have any tips?

Tip: Biscuits and Cereals gone soft?

In humid climates it doesn't take long for 'crunchy' things like biscuits and cereals to go soft. The two choices are either eating limp cornflakes or feeding them to the animals (and I'm not talking about the children here!). Alternatively, spread them on a baking tray and put them in a hot oven for a few minutes. They'll soon dry out and taste as good as the day you opened them (well, nearly).
