  • A question from a mission organisation:

My questions are along the lines of us becoming an organisation that is able to offer visa slots (probably not the write phraseology).
    • do you know what is required? Is it registering with the UKBA? If so, how easy, how much cost etc?
    • and then is it processing applications on a case by case basis? Again, how easy, how much?
We are beginning to consider whether this is a thing that might help some of our strategies.
For example, as we engage with people in the majority world about them being mission senders, we wondered whether offering people coming to the UK for 6 months, say, might be useful?
Another example, we have opportunities for people to come here to do some training (6 months to 2 years).

I am guessing that other missionary agencies have gone through this process?
    • Many agencies have done it, you are right. To be able to sponsor a migrante you have to become a UKVI sponsor. You can find the information on the link https://www.gov.uk/uk-visa-sponsorship-employers. You can bring someone on a charity worker's visa as well for up to a year. Bureaucracy is high, so you will need to appoint someone in your organisation to keep up with the paper work. If you are in education you will need sponsorship for students, which has some differences, and is harder to get, as many English schools have found out. We have had our license for a long time, so I'm not sure how easy it is to get it nowadays, but I have been told that UKVI refuses as many licenses as they give, but how true this is I don't know. But it's possible and many of us have done it successfully. Good luck.

  • Hello and Greetings from Uganda.

I've attached a link to my latest blog as it includes some questions about how to support mission partners more effectively with the re-entry process.

I'd really appreciate any feedback as I'm putting together a series of coaching packages to support missionaries whilst they are on the field (more to come in my next blog).

I'd also appreciate people's views on the use of online support whilst on the field e.g. Are people in favour or unsure of its effectiveness?  Are there any concerns over perhaps confidentiality and security? What questions do people have about using online counselling and coaching services?

Thank you for your time.  Warm greetings ~ Claudia

  • Paul - this is great! As a mission partner it would wonderful if all sending agencies could have something like this on their website to help supporters support their mission partners.  Its sometimes hard to ask for what you need, so if people know, it is a great help.  Keep up the good work!

  • Sarah, If I can plug something we (Wycliffe Bible Translators UK) have written - you might find it cover some of these points:
